The cost of connecting electricity to a home can vary depending on several factors, including the contracted power and the specific situation of the supply. In Spain, the associated costs are mainly divided into three regulated concepts: extension rights, access rights and connection rights. Below, we explain each of these items and how they are calculated.
Extension rights: These costs are applied when it is necessary to extend the capacity of the electricity grid in order to supply the contracted power. Currently, the cost of extension rights is 17.37 euros per kilowatt (kW) requested. For example, if you wish to contract a power of 5 kW, the cost of the extension rights would be 86.85 euros (5 kW x 17.37 euros/kW).
Access rights: This cost is applied for access to the capacity of the electricity grid. Access rights are priced at 19.70 euros per kilowatt (kW) requested. Using the same example of a power of 5 kW, the cost of access rights would be 98.50 euros (5 kW x 19.70 euros/kW).
Connection fee: This is a fixed cost for the connection of the electricity supply and is usually 9.04 euros. This amount is independent of the contracted power and is applied only once during the registration process.
Adding these concepts together, if a power of 5 kW is contracted, the total cost for the electricity supply would be the sum of the extension rights, the access rights and the connection rights. In this case, the calculation would be as follows:
- Extension fee: 86.85 euros
- Access fees: 98.50 euros
- Hook-up fee: 9.04 euros
Total: 194.39 euros
In addition to these regulated costs, it is important to keep in mind that some electric companies may apply additional fees for the administrative management of the supply registration. Therefore, it is advisable to consult with the specific electricity company to obtain an accurate and complete estimate of all the costs involved.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that if the electrical installation is new or has been disconnected for a long time, you may need an electrical bulletin or Electrical Installation Certificate (CIE), which must be issued by an authorized electrician. This certificate ensures that the installation complies with current regulations and may involve an additional cost depending on the professional and the complexity of the installation.
